ICICI Lombard introduces country’s 1st ‘anywhere cashless’ feature

• For the first time in the country, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited (ICICI Lombard) has launched ‘Anywhere Cashless’ feature for health insurance policyholders to avail cashless facilities at any hospital, even if not part of ICICI Lombard’s current network of hospitals.

Aim : 

• To expand insurance coverage by setting up more network partners in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, and actively seek and provide better options to customers.

Key Highlights : 

• The feature will be subject to the hospital’s acceptance of the cashless facility.
• Initially launched as a pilot, the facility can now be availed through the ‘IL TakeCare’ application across India, wherein customers will not have to bear any out-of-pocket expenses.
• It provides a hassle-free experience through all aspects of the hospitalisation from admission to discharge.
• ICICI Lombard has issued over 29.3 million policies, settled 2.3 million claims and has a gross written premium of Rs 18,562 crore as of March 2022.

• YES Bank has issued its first electronic-Bank Guarantee (e-BG) in partnership with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL).

Key Highlights : 

• The API integration with the Digital Document Execution (DDE) platform of NeSL has enabled complete digitisation of the existing paper-based process for issuance and maintenance of Bank Guarantee (BG).
• This includes digital stamping and signing, which significantly reduces the issuance turnaround time (TAT).
• The NeSL portal will manage the entire lifecycle of the bank guarantee including issuance, amendment, invocation and cancellation, enabling trade finance stakeholders to access the documents from this secure repository.
• YES Bank’s integration with NeSL with NeSL is consistent with its efforts to work with public digital utilities such as Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Account Aggregator (AA), and Government e-Marketplaces (GEM), to accelerate digitization and enabling ease of doing business for our Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and corporate customers.

PM Gati Shakti: 156 critical infrastructure gap projects identified

• Government has identified 156 critical infrastructure gap projects for intervention under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
• These projects are for movement of bulk commodities such as coal, cement, fertilizers and foodgrains.
• 66 major infrastructure projects costing 5 lakh crore have been evaluated thus far.
• 44 Network Planning Group meetings were held at the central level.
• The Network Planning Group (NPG) is constituted under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.

• Government launched the PM Gati Shakti programme on 13 October, 2021.
• It was launched with a vision to enable a mechanism for coordinated planning.
• PM Gati Shakti Master Plan was a critical tool that integrates economic and infrastructural planning with development, adding that the plan will change the face of India’s infrastructure and its multimodal logistics.

Govt approves installation of ‘Statue of Knowledge’ dedicated to Ambedkar

• The ‘Statue of Knowledge’ installation dedicated to Ambedkar was approved by Govt.
• The construction of a 75-foot-tall “Statue of Knowledge” dedicated to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in the city of Latur has received approval from the Maharashtra government.
• The state government issued an order regarding the beautification of the statue and Ambedkar Park in the city.
• Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned for this entire project.
• Last year, a 75-foot replica of Ambedkar’s statue was installed, and some organisations have been demanding that a permanent statue be installed in the city.
• On April 14, the foundation stone laying ceremony for the project will be performed on Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

Agriculture Minister launches DigiClaim for disbursal of claims by farmers through National Crop Insurance Portal

• Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched ‘DigiClaim’.
• ‘DigiClaim’ has been launched for claim disbursal through National Crop Insurance Portal.
• It has been launched under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
• Now, the claims will be disbursed electronically.
• It will benefit farmers of six states.
• It includes farmers from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana.
• Under this module, claims will be processed directly to farmers in their respective bank accounts in a transparent and accountable manner.
• This technology has been enabled through the integration of the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) and Public Finance Management System (PFMS).
• Insurance claims of over Rs 1260.35 crore have been disbursed through the DigiClaim Module to the farmers of six states.
• Under PMFBY, Rs 1.32 lakh crore clai
• m amount has been disbursed to the insured farmers.
• Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the ‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’ campaign played a key role in enhancing the awareness around PMFBY at the grassroots level.
• Telangana and Jharkhand have indicated their willingness to come back under PMFBY.
• Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand have also been approached to rejoin the scheme.

National Institute of Urban Affairs organising first Urban Climate Film Festival under U20 engagement events

• The first Urban Climate Film Festival is being organized by National Institute of Urban Affairs.
• It is being organized through the CITIIS program as part of U20 engagement events.
• It has been launched at the M.L. Bhartia Auditorium in New Delhi.
• It is being organised with the support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the French Development Agency and the European Union.
• 11 films from nine countries will be showcased to create awareness of the impact of climate change on life in cities.
• The films will be screened at the festival in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.
• National Institute of Urban Affairs is a Central Autonomous Body.
• It comes under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

• It is serving as the technical secretariat for U20.
• U20 is the urban engagement group of G20.

PM addresses One World TB Summit in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

• One World TB Summit addressed by PM Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
• On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, the Prime Minister addressed the ‘One World TB Summit’.
• The summit was organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Stop TB Partnership.
• The Stop TB Partnership (founded in 2001) is a United Nations-led organization that provides a voice for people, communities and countries affected by TB.
• During the event, the Prime Minister launched various initiatives, including the TB-free Panchayat Initiative, the official pan-India launch of a Brief TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), and the release of the India Annual TB Report 2023.
• In March 2018, during the ‘End TB Summit’ held in New Delhi, the Prime Minister called upon India to achieve the SDG targets related to TB by 2025, five years ahead of schedule.
• International delegates from more than 30 countries were present in this summit.
• The Prime Minister has also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects worth more than 1,780 crore rupees.
• He laid the foundation stone of Passenger Ropeway from Varanasi Cantt Station to Godaulia.
• It will be a unique facility for the pilgrims.
• India will be the third country in the world after Bolivia and Mexico to have a ropeway for public transport.
• The estimated cost of the project will be around Rs 645 crore.
• The length of the ropeway system will be 3.75 km.
• The ropeway will start from Varanasi Cantt station and will have five stations, including Cantt Railway Station, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Rath Yatra, Church and Godaulia.
• Under Pradhan Mantri Namami Gange Yojana, he laid the foundation stone of 55 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant at Bhagwanpur.
• The plant will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 300 crore.

Rajasthan becomes India’s first state to guarantee right to health                                                                    

• Rajasthan becomes the first state in India to pass the ‘Right to Health (RTH) Bill’ in the Assembly.

About RTH Bill : 

• The RTH bill gives every resident of the state a right to avail free Out Patient Department (OPD) services and In Patient Department (IPD) services at all the public healthcare facilities.
• This would be provided free of cost at select private facilities.
• Under this bill, private hospitals will not be able to charge emergency patients and will be compensated by the state.
• Free healthcare services including diagnostics, drugs, emergency transport, emergency care, and procedure will be provided at public institutions.
• In the case of medico-legal nature, no private or public hospital can delay treatment on grounds of police clearance.
• After emergency care, transfer of patient and stabilisation, the healthcare provider would be entitled to a requisite free and charges or proper reimbursement from the government.
• The law now adds to the 20 rights given to the residents of Rajasthan.
• The Bill intends to, “provide protection and fulfilment of rights and equity in health and well-being under Article 47 (Duty of the state to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of living and to improve public health) of Constitution of India and to secure the Right to Health as per the expanded definition of Article 21 (Protection of life and personal liberty)”.

Crypto under PMLA: CoinDCX registers itself as reporting entity with FIU

• CoinDCX has become a Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)-registered reporting entity under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) norms.
• This would lead to increased accountability and implementation of best practices by the Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) industry
• The government had mandated that Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) service providers must comply with several regulatory requirements.
• These requirements include Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, record-keeping, reporting of suspicious transactions, and appointment of a compliance officer.
• CoinDCX was also the first exchange to publish proof of reserves.
• It has recently started offering Decentralized finance (DeFi) services through Okto wallet app for users worldwide.

TRAI recommends no organisation should be allowed to set up more than 6 Community Radio Stations throughout India

• No organisation should be permitted to establish more than six Community Radio Stations throughout the country.
• Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made this recommendation recently.
• TRAI has also recommended that if any organisation is seeking to set up many stations, it should submit an undertaking confirming that programs will be made locally.
• The programs should also not be sent from other Community Radio Stations.
• Another recommendation made by TRAI is that the initial period of permission should be increased from 5 years to 10 years, at a time.
• TRAI has also recommended increase in the duration of an advertisement on a Community Radio Stations from 7 minutes per hour to 12 minutes per hour.
• Budgetary support should be provided to all the universities of Central and State Governments to establish and operate Community Radio Stations.
• All the processes for granting Community Radio Stations should be made online through a single window system.

• According to the report, titled “Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2022: Beyond the Mainstream” Actor Ranveer Singh has become the ‘Most valued celebrity of 2022’,
• He with a brand value of $181.7 million surpassed cricketer Virat Kohli.
• Kohli is in second position with a brand value of $176.9 million.
• Actor Akshay Kumar is in the third position with a brand value of $153.6 million.
• Alia Bhatt retained the fourth position and is the most valued female celebrity in India.
• Deepika Padukone with a brand valuation of $82.9 million is on the fifth spot.
• The overall brand value of the top 25 celebrities in 2022 is estimated at $1.6 billion.
• For the first time, South Indian stars Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna got a place in the top 25 celebrities of India.

• Air Force Technical College and IISc Bangalore have signed MoU.
• The MoU will promote academic cooperation and research in defence related areas.
• It will enhance the scientific understanding of adopted defence technologies.
• The MoU was signed by Air Commodore Ratnesh Gupta from the Technical College and Captain Sridhar Warrier from Indian Institute of Science.
• The partnership will also allow college Trainee Officers to use IISc libraries.
• Air Force Technical College was established in July 1949.
• It is located in Bangalore.

Mr Anant Goenka appointed as Vice Chairman of CEAT Ltd                                           

• The Board of Directors of CEAT Ltd, an RPG Group company, has appointed Mr Anant Goenka as the Vice Chairman of the tyre major.
• The appointment will come into effect from April 1, 2023.
• Meanwhile, Mr Anant Goenka has resigned as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CEAT Tyres, with effect from March 31, 2023.
• CEAT has appointed current Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr Arnab Banerjee as the MD & CEO of CEAT Tyres for a tenure of 2 years starting April 1, 2023.

• He had joined CEAT as the regional manager of sales; by 2005.
• In April 2012, he was appointed as CEAT’s Managing Director.

Mr Siddhartha Mohanty To Take Charge As LIC Chairman                                  

• The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), the headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, has selected Mr Siddhartha Mohanty as the new chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
• As per the guidelines, the chairman is selected from the 4 managing directors (MDs) of the company.
• Currently, Mr Siddhartha Mohanty, managing director of LIC.
• The final decision on the FSIB recommendation will be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Indian Woman Hockey Player Salima Tete appointed as AHF Athletes Ambassador                              

• National women’s hockey team midfielder Salima Tete was appointed as the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Athletes Ambassador from India for a term of 2 years.
• Tete accepted the certificate and the position during the AHF Congress in Mungyeong, South Korea.
• As the AHF Athletes Ambassador, Tete, along with the other selected athletes from Asia, will play a leadership role in international representation, development, and advocacy of athletes.
• She will also be working towards promoting awareness about athletes’ rights and welfare from the region.

Ministry of Defence signs Rs 3,000 crore contract with BEL for procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems ‘Project Himshakti’                        

• The Ministry of Defence (MoD), signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Hyderabad for procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems ‘Project Himshakti’ at an overall cost of approximately Rs 3,000 crore.
• The project is under the Buy {Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured)} category comprising contemporary and niche technologies.

About Project Himshakti : 

• ‘Project Himshakti’ will encourage participation of Indian Electronics and associated industries, including Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are sub vendors of BEL.
• It will generate employment of approximately three lakh man-days over a period of 2 years.
• The project is a significant leap forward in developing indigenous capabilities making the country ‘Atma Nirbhar’, in consonance with the Make-in-India initiative of the Government.

ISRO successfully launches LVM3-M3/OneWeb with 36 satellites from Andhra Pradesh

• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the LVM3(Launch Vehicle Mark III)-M3/OneWeb India-2 mission with all 36 satellites deployed into intended orbits.
• The mission launch took place from the second launch pad at the iconic Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota (SDSC-SHAR) spaceport off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
• OneWeb is backed by Bharti Enterprises. 

About LVM3-M3 Mission : 

• This was the second mission operated by the ISRO for the OneWeb subsidiary Network Access Associates Ltd, United Kingdom under a commercial agreement with the NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) to launch 72 satellites into Low Earth Orbits (LEO).
• The first set of 36 satellites of OneWeb Group company was launched on October 23, 2022 by ISRO.
• In the OneWeb Gen-1 constellation, the satellites are equally divided among 12 planes. 
• The constellation operates at an altitude of about 1,200 kilometres above Earth’s surface.
• Each plane is separated by an altitude of 4 kilometres to prevent inter-plane collision.
• The satellites totalling about 5,805 kilos were placed in a 450 km circular orbit with an inclination of 87.4 degrees.
• The height of the launch vehicle is 43.5 metres, and its lift-off mass was 643 tonnes. 
• This was the 6th launch of India’s heaviest rocket LVM-3.
• The mission completes OneWeb’s network of 618 LEO satellites for providing global broadband connectivity against the initial target of 648 satellites.
• LVM3 was previously known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark–III with a cryogenic upper stage.

4th Asian Kho Kho Championship concludes, Indian men, women emerge champions

• India won titles in both the men’s and women’s section of the Asian Kho-Kho Championship in Tamulpur, Assam.
• In the women’s section, India beat Nepal by an innings and 33 points.
• In the men’s section too, India won the title by defeating Nepal by an innings and six points.
• India has been remained unbeaten in both categories in the championship.
• A total of 16 teams (men and women) participated in the event.
• The participating countries were Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka and host India.
• Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary and Minister U G Brahma distributed the prizes to the winners.

Stadium Named After Hockey Star Rani Rampal, First Woman To Get This Honour

• Rani Rampal becomes the first women’s hockey player to have a stadium named after.
• The Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli has renamed the hockey stadium as ‘Rani’s Girls Hockey Turf’.
• Earlier this year, Rani Rampal made a comeback to the Indian team during the tour of South Africa.
• Rani Rampal is the former captain of the Indian women’s hockey team.
• Under his leadership, the team reached the final of hockey tournament at the Tokyo Olympics.

Malayalam actor & former LS member Innocent Vareed Thekkethala passed away                              

• Popular Malayalam actor and former Lok Sabha member Innocent Vareed Thekkethala passed away at the age of 75 in Kochi, Kerala.

About Vareed Thekkethala : 

• Innocent was born on 4 March 1948 in Thrissur, Kerala.
• He was an Indian actor, film producer, writer and politician.
• He predominantly worked in Malayalam films in addition to few Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and English films, mostly in comedic roles
• He joined the film industry in 1972 with the movie ‘Nrityashala’ starring Prem Nazir and Jayabharathi.
• He acted in a few Hindi films, notably ‘Malamaal Weekly’.
• He was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2014 general elections from the Chalakkudi constituency in Kerala as an independent candidate backed by the CPI-M.
• He served as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), a guild of Malayalam artists from 2003 to 2018.
