Ministry involved:-

The scheme is under the administration control of ministry of petroleum and natural gas in collaboration with several oil related public sectors units like HPCL, BPCL, IOCL etc.

Objectives:-

To Utilize more than 62 million metric tonnes of waste generated every year in India.

To Cut down import dependence.

To Supplement  job creation in advanced fuel industry of the country.

To bring down vehicular emissions and pollution from burning of agricultural / organic waste.

In november 2020 the petroleum minister announced that government will invest 2 lakh crore for setting up 5000 compressed bio gas plant in the country.

Benefits :-

According to the scheme the government will set up bio gas plants across the country . the major producton of bio gas result in best option as fuel in transportation. As biogas is pollution free and it will help to reduce the pollution caused by vehicular emmisiions. Low cost price of this fuel will lead to affordable transportation and will ultimately help evry sector.

Responsible waste management, decrease in carbon emissions and pollution.

Supplemental revenue source for farmers.

Boost to entrepreneurship, rural economy and employment.

Assist to national commitments in achieving climate change goals.

Decrease in import of natural gas and crude oil.

Buffer against crude oil/gas price fluctuations.

About bio gas:-

Bio-gas is produced naturally through a process of anaerobic decomposition from waste / bio-mass sources like agriculture residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, sewage treatment plant waste, etc.

After purification, it is compressed and called CBG, which has pure methane content of over 95%. Compressed Bio-Gas is exactly similar to the commercially available natural gas in its composition and energy potential.

With calorific value (~52,000 KJ/kg) and other properties similar to CNG, Compressed Bio-Gas can be used as an alternative, renewable automotive fuel. Given the abundance of biomass in the country, Compressed Bio-Gas has the potential to replace CNG in automotive, industrial and commercial uses in the coming years.
