International Day of Charity- September 5
- September 5th is recognized as the International Day of Charity.
- In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed
- Mother Teresa, who had always worked in charity, was remembered on September 5 to mark her passing anniversary.
- For “work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace” Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
- The main goal of the Worldwide Day of Charity is to increase awareness and offer a common platform for charity-related events for people, charitable, philanthropic, and volunteer groups to use for their own goals on a local, national, regional, and international level.
Teachers’ Day 2022- September 5
- Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday, September 5, is commemorated each year in India with Teachers’ Day 2022.
- He was a Bharat Ratna winner, academic, and former president of India.
- When Dr. Radhakrishan took office as the second President of India in 1962, his students approached him to seek permission to celebrate September 5 as a special day.
- Radhakrishnan instead requested them to observe September 5 as Teachers’ Day, to recognize the contribution of teachers the society.
- Ever since then, September 5 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day across schools, colleges, universities, and educational institutions. Students put on performances, and dances and host elaborate shows for their most-loved teachers.

Home Minister Amit Shah will unveil the “CAPF eAwas” web portal in Delhi:
- The Central Armed Police Forces’ web portal for CAPF eAwas was presented by Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.
- In remarks given on the occasion, Mr. Shah said that the Central Armed Police Forces had always served as a strong foundation for the country’s internal security.
- Since Independence Day, more than 35,000 police officers have perished protecting internal security, and because of their sacrifices, people may rest easy at night and feel secure.
- A unified web portal called “CAPF eAwas” has been created to operationalize the improved policy of allocation and to also increase transparency in the allocation process.
- To provide better medical treatment to the families of slain troops, the Indian government started the “Ayushman CAPF” program.
- As a result of this CAPF eAwas scheme, more than 35 lakh Ayushman Cards have been distributed to 10 lakh military personnel.
The unemployment rate surges to an 8.3% yearly high:
- Data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) show that in August, India’s jobless rate rose to a one-year high of 8.3% while employment decreased by 2 million to 394.6 million.
- In July, there were 397 million people employed and the unemployment rate was 6.8%.
- In rural India, the jobless rate increased from 6.1% in July to 7.7% in August.
- More significantly, the employment rate dropped from 37.6% to 37.3%.
- As the monsoon season progresses, the delayed monsoon will enhance agricultural activity, which might result in a decrease in the rural unemployment rate.

India Contributes Rs 3 Crore To Voluntary Trust Funds For Protection Of UN Human Rights
- India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), Geneva, Switzerland revealed that India has contributed $ 400,000 (over Rs 3 crore) to 4 Voluntary Trust Funds.

- Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture
- Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation
- Voluntary Fund for financial and technical assistance for the implementation of Universal Periodic Review
- Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund to support the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDs) in the work of the council.

About Voluntary Trust Funds :
- A special UN program called the ‘Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture provides direct assistance to victims of torture and their families.
- The General Assembly established it in 1981 to draw attention to the concerns of torture victims on a global scale.
- The Voluntary Fund for Technical Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights was founded by the UN Secretary-General in
- The Voluntary Fund for Financial and Technical Assistance in the implementation of the universal periodic review came into force in 2007 by Human Rights Council resolution 6/17, which got further enhanced by resolution 16/21 in
- The Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund was established in 2012 by Human Rights Council resolution 19/26 to encourage the involvement of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Council activities.
- The fund has been supported by voluntary donations from UN member states.
- The goal of the fund is to make sure that LDCs and SIDS, particularly those without a permanent representation in Geneva, may take part in and contribute to the Council’s work.

Center Approves UP Family ID Plan – Parivar Kalyan Card
- The Central Government has granted permission to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government’s proposal of releasing family IDs to its residents and application for Aadhaar authentication for their details through the ministry of electronics and information technology (MEIT).
- With this, the UP government is set to issue a family identity card (Parivar Kalyan Card) to map each family in the state and is expected to launch its portal for application within the next 2 weeks.
About Parivar Kalyan Card Scheme :
- After its implementation, the Card will be a 12-digit card that will help the state govt to map all the families and the benefits of several govt schemes received by a family.
- Through this scheme, the UP government will identify a family unit and its members & also qualify them as beneficiaries for various government schemes ranging from employment, pensions, and housing benefits among others
How will UP Parivar Kalyan Card work :
- The UP Parivar Kalyan Card will be issued to family units based on their Aadhaar Data.
- Currently, registration for the Card Scheme has been kept voluntary & only those seeking to avail govt scheme benefits will be required to register for it.
- Under the program, family units will be allowed to register to receive a 12 Digit Family ID based on which different persons within the family would be identified to receive benefits under government schemes.
- The Ministry had specified that no person will be denied any service or benefits on account of the failure of Aadhaar-based authentication.
- The UP Government has also consulted the governments of Haryana and Karnataka, who have launched similar schemes under banners of ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ and ‘Kutumba Card’,
Karnataka govt launches Global Startup Challenge ‘VentuRISE’
- The Karnataka government launched the Global Startup Challenge “VentuRISE” to recognize, reward, and support growth-stage startups in manufacturing and sustainability-related sectors.
- VentuRISE is a part of the flagship event Global Investors Meet -“Invest Karnataka 2022″ from 2nd – 4th November 2022 at Bangalore, Karnataka.
- Minister for Large and Medium Industries Shri Murugesh R Nirani Unveiled the logo of VentuRISE.

- India’s largest pure-play credit card issuer, SBI Cards & Payment Services Ltd (SBI Card) has launched the ‘Cashback SBI Card’, which is the first-of-its-kind comprehensive cashback credit card in
- Consumers across India, including tier 2 and 3 cities, can easily get CASHBACK SBI Cards instantly through the digital application platform ‘SBI Card SPRINT’.
- The card offers a simple, seamless, and completely digital joining experience.
About ‘Cashback SBI Card’ :

SBI trims GDP growth forecast to 6.8% for FY23
- The State Bank of India (SBI) chief economist Mr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh has revised down India’s full-year GDP growth forecast to 6.8 for the financial year FY23.
- Earlier, the growth forecast was 7.5%.
Key Highlights :
- For Q1FY23, the economist had forecasted GDP growth at 7%.
- In the remaining quarters, Ghosh expects GDP growth to be at 6.9% in Q2FY23, further dropping to 4.1% in Q3 followed by a 4% rate in Q4.
- The SBI chief economist highlighted that at 13.5% real GDP growth has contracted by 9.6% sequentially, but the seasonally adjusted real GDP growth series shows a pick-up in economic momentum, with higher growth at 5.6% sequentially in Q1 compared to -4.1% in Q1FY22 and 1.9% in Q4FY22.
- During the first quarter of FY23, the manufacturing sector recorded a growth of 4.8% sharply down from 49% in Q1FY22.
- The growth rate in construction stood at 16.8%, a steep drop from 71.3% in Q1FY22.
- Also, mining and quarrying growth declined to 6.5% from 18% in Q1 of FY22.

64th Ramon Magsaysay Award 2022 announced:
- In a recent worldwide announcement ceremony, the Ramon Magsaysay Awards Foundation (RMAF), popularly considered the “Nobel Peace Prize of Asia,” named the recipients for this year.
- Sotheara Chhim (Cambodia), Bernadette Madrid (Philippines), Tadashi Hattori (Japan), and Gary Bencheghib (Indonesia) are the recipients of the 2022 Ramon Magsaysay Awards.
About the recipients:
- Sotheara Chhim-He is a Cambodian mental health activist. He is a prominent proponent of the trauma syndrome in Cambodia. He is being honored for “his calm courage in overcoming profound trauma to become the healer of his people.” Before the Khmer Rouge’s control came to an end in 1979, he was made to work in camps for more than three years as a youngster.
- Tadashi Hattori-He is a Japanese humanitarian who works to save sight. He is being praised for his amazing compassion and straightforward humanity both personally and professionally. At age 15, he decided to become a doctor after seeing the indignity with which his cancer-stricken father was treated in a hospital.
- Gary Bencheghib is an Indonesian spokesman against plastic waste. For “his remarkable campaign against marine plastic waste,” he has received an Emergent Leadership Award.
- Bernardine J. Madrid– A Filipino advocate for children’s rights, she is being honored for “her unpretentious and unwavering devotion to noble and arduous causes. She has been in charge of the Philippine General Hospital’s first child safety center in Manila since 1997. Up until last year, it has assisted more than 27,000 kids.

- The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Adobe have partnered to strengthen the nation’s capacity for digital innovation.
- To give children the core creative and digital literacy skills they need to flourish in today’s digital-first world, the agreement’s conditions include that Adobe will educate teachers, offer courses, and integrate digital creativity into the curriculum.
- The collaboration aims to provide essential digital creativity skills to more than 75,000 educators working in 10,000 institutions of higher education by 2024.
- If India aspires to become the world’s talent capital, the key is to foster digital and creative capacities.

LIC out of a list of Top 10 valued Indian Companies:
- Bajaj Finance and Adani Transmission have displaced Life Insurance Company (LIC) from the top 10 firms by market capitalization.
- Adani Transmission is now in ninth place, Bajaj Finance is in tenth, and LIC is now in eleventh place.
- Adani Transmission joined the top 10 list with a market cap of $4.43 billion on the BSE, surpassing LIC’s and Bajaj Finance’s respective total mcaps of $4.42 billion and $4.26 billion.
- Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is on the top of the list of valued Indian Companies with a market capitalization of ₹8 lakh crore, followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HDFC Bank, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), ICICI Bank and State Bank of India (SBI).
NCRB published a report titled Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India 2021:
- According to research by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the number of suicide-related deaths in India hit an all-time high in 2021.
- 64 lakh persons died by suicide in 2017, an increase of 7.2% from 1.53 lakh in 2020.
- More people have died from suicide-related causes since 1967, the first year for which statistics are available.
- According to the Accidental Deaths & Suicides report, 11.3 suicides per 100,000 people have been recorded up to this point.
- As per the information on accidental fatalities and suicides given by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in Accidental Deaths & Suicides, this number was around 1.39 lakh in 2019.
State Wise Report:
- According to the Accidental Deaths & Suicides report, 22,207 persons committed suicide in Maharashtra in 2021, making it the state with the highest recorded suicide rate.
- Following Madhya Pradesh with 14,965 suicide cases, West Bengal with 13,500, and Karnataka with 13,056 instances, Tamil Nadu came in second with 18,925 cases.
- According to the data, these five states were responsible for 50.4% of all suicide fatalities nationwide.

- Forbes Asia has published the second edition of its list, titled ‘Forbes Asia-100 to Watch 2022.’
- The list focuses on small businesses and startups that are growing in the Asia-Pacific area.
- The list for 2022 included 11 start-up firms from India, 19 companies from Singapore, 16 from Hong Kong, 15 from South Korea, and 13 from China.

India Surpasses UK to Become World’s 5th Largest Economy:
- According to Bloomberg, India has surpassed Britain to become the world’s fifth-largest economy.
- The United Kingdom has dropped to sixth place as a result of the rating shift, as the country continues to battle with the harsh cost-of-living issue.
- This year, the Indian economy is expected to rise by more than 7%.
- The Indian economy in “normal” cash terms in the quarter through March was USD 845.7 billion on an adjusted basis and using the dollar exchange rate on the final day of the relevant quarter.
- According to the analysis, the UK was worth USD 816 billion on the same basis.

- State-owned hydro power giant NHPC Limited announced that Yamuna Kumar Chaubey has been given the charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) for 3 months beginning September 1, 2022.
- He succeeded Abhay Kumar Singh who superannuated on August 31, 2022.

- Chaubey, 59, joined NHPC Limited in 1985 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at 540 MW Chamera Hydro-Electric Project, now Chamera-I Power Station, Himachal Pradesh.
- He served as Chairman on the board of Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd & was appointed as nominee director on the boards of Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited and Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd from October 1, 2020, and June 1, 2021, respectively.
- Currently, he is the Director (Technical) of NHPC and is also holding the additional charge of Director (Personnel), of NHPC.

Cabinet Committee on Security approves Tejas Mark-2 Project
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved the Tejas Mark-2 project to boost India’s push for indigenous fighter aircraft.
- The CCS has sanctioned 6,500 crores for designing and developing of Tejas Mark-2 fighter jet with prototypes, flight testing, and certification in addition to the existing 2500 crore sanctioned to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
- Tejas 2.0 will be a more capable version of the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA).
About Tejas Mark-2 :
- Tejas 2.0 will be equipped with more powerful GE-414 engines in the 98 Kilonewton thrust class.
- The payload capacity of the Tejas Mark-2 jet will be 4 tonnes as compared to 3 tonnes of the existing version.
- This would pave the way for designers to develop an advanced 17.5-tonne single-engine aircraft.
- It is expected to replace fighters like the Mirage-2000s, Jaguars and MiG-29s in the IAF’s combat fleet.
- The new jet will also be equipped with an indigenously developed Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, which will be a major upgrade from the existing ELTA EL/M-2032 multi-mode radar.
- The government is also planning on approving the fifth-generation advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA) with stealth features and supercruise capabilities.

India’s first indigenously-developed vaccine for cervical cancer prevention to be launched
- India’s first indigenously developed quadrivalent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer will be launched in the next few months and will be available in the price range of Rs 200-Rs 400.
- The vaccine for Cervical cancer “CERVAVAC”, will be launched by Union Minister of State Science and Technology Shri Jitendra Singh.
- The vaccine was developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) & the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
- The SII received clearance from the Drugs Controller General of India in July 2022 for the vaccine.
- The Union government plans to target the age of 9-14 years of girls for vaccination against cervical cancer.
- By Dec 2022, SII reported that the center can supply 1 crore doses of qHPV.

Amlan Borgohain sets a new record in the 100 meters at the All-India Railway Cups:
- Amlan Borgohain, who now owns the 200-meter national record, has also broken the 100-meter mark.
- At the 87th all-India inter-Railway athletics championships in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, the 24-year-old Assamese athlete ran the 100 meters in 10.25 seconds (wind speed +1.8, legal), breaking Amiya Kumar Mallick’s previous national record of 10.26 seconds that stood for six years.
- The 10.34-second time that Borgohain ran before was set in the National Open in Warangal in 2017.
- It falls far short of the entrance mark (10.00s) for the Budapest World Championships the following year.
- In the 100 and 200-meter races, he is the current national champion.
- The 200-meter national record is held by Amlan Borgohain (20.52 seconds), who set it in April at the Federation Cup.
FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: VAR technology to make debut in India
- The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will debut in the next Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India in 2022, according to the world football governing body FIFA.
- The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had been suspended for 11 days until FIFA decided to overturn the ban.
- The illustrious competition will take place from October 11 to October 30 at Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Stadium), Margao (JLN Stadium), and Navi Mumbai (DY Patil Stadium).
- Following the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France in 2019, the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India will be the third FIFA women’s competition to use VAR.
- The first instance of VAR implementation in India was during the quarterfinal round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which the nation hosted in January and February of this year.

A comic book adaption of the Kartik Aaryan-starring film “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2”:
- “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2,” starring Kartik Aaryan, will be turned into a comic book series.
- Diamond Comics, India’s renowned distributor and publisher of comic books has partnered with production companies T-Series and Cine1Studios to deliver “Rooh Baba Ki Bhool Bhulaiyaa,” based on Aaryan’s character, to the young audience.
- The main image from the comic book portrays Kartik Aaryan as Rooh Baba.
- The recognizable Diamond Comics characters are also included on the poster.
- On the left side of Rooh Baba, Shaktimaan and Chacha Chaudhary are depicted, while Sabu is also seen on the comic book cover’s right side.
- The primary visual also features Motu and Patlu.
