Govt land worth Rs 2000 cr to become garbage-free under Smart City Mission in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
- Under the waste-to-wealth concept given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Coimbatore Smart City Mission has taken the initiative of cleaning the waste accumulated over decades and earning from it.
- Smart City Mission officials say valuable government land worth about 2,000 crore rupees will also become garbage-free.
- According to official data, over 15.5 lakh cubic metres of garbage were accumulated in Coimbatore city for many years. Due to this garbage, 650 acres of land were also buried in the pile of garbage.
- General Manager of Smart City Mission Limited, Bhaskar Srinivasan informed that in the first phase, we have taken the initiative to clean about nine and a half lakh cubic meters of garbage in two and a half years. With this, 140 acres of land can be freed.
- So far, garbage has been removed from 50 acres of land and the rest of the land will also be garbage free soon. This land worth about two thousand crore rupees will be used for IT Parks, industries, and other developmental projects.
- In Coimbatore, 1100 tonnes of garbage is produced daily. To prevent the accumulation of garbage in the future, garbage collection vehicles are also being monitored through GPS.

PM Modi to lay foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country through video conferencing.
- The stations will be redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of over 24 thousand 470 crore rupees. Master Plans are being prepared for the development of these stations as City Centres, with proper integration of both sides of the city.
- This integrated approach is driven by the holistic vision of the overall urban development of the city, centred around the railway station.
- 508 stations are spread across 27 states and union territories.
- This includes 55 stations each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, and 25 in Odisha among others.
- The redevelopment will provide modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration, and well-designed signage for the guidance of passengers.
- The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage, and architecture.
Centre allocates over Rs 1,39, 500 crore to extend Bharat Net in 6,40,000 villages
- The government has allocated one lakh 39 thousand 579 crore rupees to extend Bharat Net in six lakh 40 thousand villages across the country.
- The Communications Ministry said that the extension project of the Bharat Net will be achieved in nearly two years.
- The Ministry said that the extension project has been decided after the success of a pilot project in 60 thousand Gram Panchayat villages across the country in eight months.
- The Ministry highlighted that the Bharat Net has reached 1.94 lakh villages during the pilot project and 5 lakh 67 thousand households have active Bharat Net connections so far and the extension program will also provide nearly two lakh 50 thousand jobs.
- Built under the Make in India initiative, Bharat Net is one of the world’s largest rural broadband connectivity programs, being implemented by Central PSUs including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
NHA extends Digital Health Incentives Scheme till 31 Dec 2023
- The National Health Authority (NHA) has announced the extension of its Digital Health Incentives Scheme (DHIS) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission till the 31st of December this year.
- The Union Health Ministry said the scheme offers incentives of up to four crore rupees based on the number of digital health records created and linked to Ayushman Bharat Health Account numbers of the patients.
- Under the scheme, incentives are provided to hospitals and diagnostic labs and the providers of digital health solutions.
- The DHIS was launched in January 2023.
- The Ministry said, the scheme proved to be a significant catalyst in promoting the adoption of digital health technologies and practices in healthcare delivery across the country.
- As of date, one thousand 205 health facilities have registered under this scheme with 567 public and 638 private hospitals.

- The portal will have the processing of applications/service requests in a time-bound manner through the electronic workflow.
- It will also have provisions for OTP-based user registration, validation checks for compliance with the MSCS Act and Rules, hearing through video conference, issue of the registration certificate and electronic communication.
- This project of computerization will prove helpful in the registration of new MSCS and will ease their functioning.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurates the 132nd Durand Cup in Kokrajhar, Assam

National Security and Defense Services think tank to organise Military Heritage Guided Tour
- National Security and Defense Services think tank, the United Services Institution of India (USI), is organising a historic Military Heritage Guided Tour to illuminate the country’s rich military legacy among the citizens.
- The first leg of this tour is scheduled to commence on the 12th of August at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district of Punjab.
- A website dedicated to the tour will be launched on the same day where interested persons can register themselves.
- Addressing media in New Delhi, the USI and its collaborators informed that the tour is open for all Indian and foreign individuals of all age groups.
- The upcoming tours will cover military culture across the nation, including North East circuit comprising Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Tawang circuit, Leh, Ladakh and Kashmir circuit, Longewala Circuit and Andaman and Nicobar circuit.

- The Indian Space Research Organisation has all set for the Lunar Orbit Injection of Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft.
- The spacecraft to the moon has covered about two-thirds of the distance to the moon.
- ISRO has executed a series of strategic moves, progressively increasing the spacecraft’s distance from Earth.
- Notably, on August 1, a crucial slingshot manoeuvre was successfully employed to propel the craft from Earth’s orbit towards the Moon.
- Following the trans-lunar injection, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft transitioned from Earth’s orbit and began its trajectory towards the Moon. A pivotal event is scheduled for August 5, where the Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) will be executed during the closest point to the Moon (perilune).

Bureau of Indian Standards signs MoU with 35 institutions for fostering collaboration in standardization and conformity assessment
- Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with 35 prestigious institutions across the country for fostering collaboration in standardization and conformity assessment.
- The institutions included some prominent NITs, Government and Private Engineering colleges from different states across the country.
- The MoU will pave the way for the partner institutions to participate in standardization activities by associating with the technical committees of the Bureau at the national and international levels, getting infrastructure support for relevant R&D Projects, jointly organizing events on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, exchanging publications, introducing standardization curricula in academics, exploring a Centre of Excellence for Standardization, testing, and Conformity Assessment, and sharing laboratory facilities.
- During the event, Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, emphasized that the MoUs with these esteemed academic institutions will bolster and enrich the standards formulation activities.
- Providing detailed insights into the program’s framework and future trajectory, Shri Chandan Bahl, Deputy Director General of BIS, eloquently explained how this partnership would unfold.

Aditi Swami becomes 1st Indian to clinch individual World Title at World Archery Championships
- Aditi Swami created history by becoming the first-ever Indian to clinch the individual World Title at the World Archery Championships final in Berlin.
- Less than two months after clinching the junior world title, 17-year-old Aditi, became the senior world champion when she defeated Andrea Becerra of Mexico, 149-147 in the summit clash of the compound women’s event.
- With the win, the Satara teenager became the first Indian world champion in an individual event at the Senior World Championships.
- Soon after Aditi Swami’s gold in the women’s event, India’s Ojas Deotale created history when he defeated Lukasz Przybylski of Poland 150-149 in a thrilling final to become the new world champion in Men’s compound event.
- Earlier in the day, Aditi ousted her ‘idol’ Jyothi Surekha Vennam 149-145 in an all-Indian semifinal.
- Jyothi, however, went on to win a bronze medal when she shot a perfect 150 to defeat Ipek Tomruk of Turkey by four points in the third-place play-off.

SAI launches short movie series ‘Halla Bol’ on a journey of Asian Games-bound athletes
- Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Umbrella Campaign ‘Cheer4India’ has launched a short movie series ‘Halla Bol’ on the journey of Asian Games-bound athletes to motivate them for the Hangzhou Asian Games and spread awareness about the upcoming Asian Games.
- SAI said that a total of 12 short movies will be showcased in the coming weeks.
- SAI highlighted that the initiative will not only motivate the athletes heading to Asian Games but also youngsters of the country to take up sports.
- Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the Indian contingent is gearing up for the 19th edition of the Asian Games.
- He appealed to the nation to watch the Halla Bol series showcasing the inspiring journey of the country’s talented athletes.
- Mr Thakur added that these athletes are once again set on the mission to bring pride and laurel to the nation. A similar movie series, ‘Olympics ki Aasha,’ was launched before the Tokyo Olympics.

Hiroshima Day 2023: August 6
- Every year August 6 is celebrated as Hiroshima Day.
- Hiroshima Day 2023 is observed all over the world to promote peace politics.
- This day is observed to raise awareness of the bomb attack on Hiroshima.
- In 1945, the United States (US) deployed a nuclear bomb in the city of Hiroshima which is located in the country of Japan.
- This nuclear bomb wiped out 39 per cent of the civilians of Hiroshima.
- The US has named the atomic bomb named “The Little Boy” which was dropped on August 6.
- During the bomb attack, approximately 90,000 to 1,40,000 people were killed and thousands of people were injured.
- When the bomb was dropped, Japan was struck by a blinding light, and a giant-shaped cloud and almost 60,000 buildings crashed.
- During the Second World War, Japan was against the US.
- The United States and its allies won the war and thousands of soldiers were killed during the war.
- Nuclear radiation comes out of the bomb, and it causes horrible illnesses among many other people.
National Handloom Day 2023 – August 7
- National Handloom Day is observed every year on August 7.
- On this day, the Government and other organizations raised awareness to honour the handloom weaving community.
- In 2015, the first National Handloom Day was celebrated which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi
- On August 7, 1905, The Swadeshi movement was launched in Calcutta Town Hall. This movement focuses on reviving domestic production, encouraging handloom industries and the spirit of Swadeshi.
- A huge number of handloom weavers participated in this Swadeshi movement. While Delhi was hosting the special events on that day, many other countries like Varanasi, Jaipur, and Guwahati also organised many other special events.
- This movement encourages the Indians to wear clothes made by handlooms.
- The Ministry of Textiles will be celebrating National Handloom Day at Dilli Haat which is celebrated from August 1 to August 15.
