World Children’s Day – Nov 20
- The Universal/World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November annually to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
- November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. 2021 marks the 32nd anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- The theme of World Children’s Day 2021 is ” A better future for every child.” The theme focuses on raising the voice on the issues that matter to the generation of children and young people and calling for adults to create a better future.
- In 1954, World Children’s Day was first established as Universal Children’s Day and is decided to celebrate it on 20 November every year.
- The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the child in 1959. And it is also the date when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Cabinet has approved the continuation of the PMGSY-I and PMGSY-II up to September 2022
- Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposals by the Union Rural Development Ministry for continuation of the PMGSY-I and PMGSY-II up to September 2022 to complete road and bridge works.
- The cabinet cleared a proposal to lay 32,152 km of roads in remote areas of the country at a cost of Rs 33,822 crore, out of which, the Centre would spend Rs 22,978 crore
- The Cabinet has also approved continuation of the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas up to March, 2023.
- PMGSY-I: It was initiated in 2000 to provide connectivity to unconnected habitations of population sizes of more than 500 in plain areas and more than 250 in the North-East and other Himalayan states.
- PMGSY-II: It was approved in May, 2013, for upgradation of 50,000 Km of existing rural road network.
- PMGSY-III: It was launched in 2019 for consolidation of 1,25,000 km road length by March, 2025. Around 72,000 km road length has so far been sanctioned under PMGSY-III, out of which, 17,750 km has been completed.
- RCPLWEA: It was started in 2016 to improve connectivity in 44 LWE affected districts in 9 states viz. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, with an outlay of Rs. 11,725 crore.

52nd International Film Festival of India has begun in Goa
- The 52nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is all set to kick off with a glittering opening ceremony.
- The opening ceremony will be hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Manish Paul.
- This year, the brightest, young cinematic personalities from across India will be participating in the ’75 creative minds of tomorrow’ competition.
- Martin Scorsese and Istevan Szabo will be honoured with Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.
- The two towering figures of international cinema will make their presence virtually at the inaugural ceremony. ‘The King of all the World’ directed by Carlos Saura will be the Opening Film and this will also be the film’s international premiere.
- As many as 55 films across the world will be showcased under the World Panorama Section. The International Film Competition will be adjudged by an international jury with Chairperson Iranian filmmaker Rakhshān Banietemad.
- The organizing team has announced that homage would be paid to the lives lost from the world of cinema. Actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who recently lost his life would be honoured along with legendary actors like Dilip Kumar and filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta among others.
- The nine-day film festival, being organized in both hybrid and virtual formats, is being held in Goa between the 20th to 28th of November.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to inaugurate IFSCA’s Infinity Forum
- Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi will inaugurate the “InFinity Forum”, a 2-day thought leadership Forum on FinTech, on 3rd December 2021.
- The event is being hosted by International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) under the aegis of Government of India in collaboration with GIFT City and Bloomberg on December 3 and 4, 2021, in virtual mode.
- Indonesia, South Africa and the U.K. are partner countries in the first edition of the Forum. Key domestic partners to this year’s Forum are NITI Aayog, Invest India, FICCI and NASSCOM.
- Earlier in her Union Budget speech 2020-21, Union Minister for Finance Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman announced to support a “World Class FinTech Hub” at GIFT IFSC, country’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

Government signed a Contract for procurement of Two FBFMS for Jaguar Aircraft from HAL for IAF
- The government has signed a contract for procurement of two Fixed Base Full Mission Simulators (FBFMS) for Jaguar Aircraft from HAL for IAF with five years Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) at a combined total cost of Rs.357 crore.
- These simulators would be installed at Air Force Stations Jamnagar and Gorakhpur.
- Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, India is continuously growing in its power to indigenously design, develop and manufacture advanced cutting-edge technologies and systems in the Defence Sector.
- The manufacturing of Fixed Base Full Mission Simulator (FBFMS) by HAL will give a further push to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and boost indigenization of defence production and the defence industry in the country.
- The commissioning of the first FBFMS with associated equipment shall be completed within 27 months from the contract at Air Force Station Jamnagar & the 2nd FBFMS shall be completed within 36 months from the contract at Air Force Station Gorakhpur.

India virtually participated in 21st Annual Council of Ministers (COM) meeting:
- India has reaffirmed its strong commitment to strengthening Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) & India Virtually participating in the 21st Annual Council of Ministers (COM) meeting.
- Minister of State in External Affairs ministry Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, IORA, the largest and pre-eminent organization in the Indian Ocean Region, is promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region as well as in the wider Indo-Pacific.
- Singh highlighted India’s contributions as coordinator of the IORA priority areas of Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
- During the Strategic Dialogue on the topic Impact of COVID-19 and perspectives of economic recovery in the Indian Ocean Region, the minister provided an overview of India’s own experience of combating COVID-19 pandemic.
- Singh highlighted India’s assistance as the first responder in the region to various countries in the Indo-Pacific during the Covid pandemic and emphasized India’s readiness to share its experience and resources in the spirit of solidarity.

Government of West Bengal has launched India’s first of its kind WhatsApp chat bot
- The Food and Supplies Department, Government of West Bengal, has launched India’s first of its kind WhatsApp chat bot dedicated to facilitate the citizens of West Bengal to apply for a ration card, lodge grievances and get access to other critical resources
- The chatbot is developed with full-service capabilities and eliminates the need for people to visit the ration office to get their queries addressed or submit requests. The free chatbot is available in English and Bengali.
- This will also help the farmers with verified information related to paddy procurement.
- The bot is built with resources like ration card application form, tracking application, linking to aadhar, guidance on scheduling sale of paddy and others.

HDFC Bank has launched a micro-credit facility for the street vendors
- HDFC Bank launched a micro-credit facility for the street vendors under PM Street vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), with common service centres.
- PM SVANidhi provides a collateral-free affordable loan of Rs 10,000 along with an interest subsidy of 7 percent. It was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on June 01, 2020 to provide affordable working capital loans to street vendors to continue their livelihoods that have been affected due to lockdown.
- HDFC Bank facilitates the PM SVANidhi for its Village-Level Entrepreneurs on the digital Sewa portal where vendors can complete the entire process via online method.
- HDFC Bank capitalizes for facilitating small ticket loans of Rs 10,000 for vendors along with VLEs to identify the opportunities for other products & maximize their incentives.

Mswipe announced the partnership agreement with OneCard
- Mswipe has announced a partnership agreement with OneCard, a mobile-first credit card company.
- It will provide no-cost or low-cost EMIs to its retail customers while purchasing at Mswipe Point of Sale terminals
- OneCard through its ‘OneCard App’ is providing its card users both offline and online transactions, other services such as paying the bill, locking the card, domestic and international transactions
- The users of OneCloud are now able to access no or low interest EMIs while availing mid and high value purchases at retail outlets of Mswipe terminals.

Justice M Duraiswamy has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court
- The senior most judge of Madras High Court, M Duraiswamy was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras HC.
- According to the Article 217 of the Constitution, the Judge of a High Court has been appointed by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the Governor of the State.
- Justice Sanjib Banerjee, who was the Chief Justice of the Madras HC since January 2021, was appointed as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC.
- The appointment was notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice. Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, transferred from the Allahabad HC to the Madras HC, will become the senior-most judge of the Madras HC.
Mary Kom become a Brand Ambassador of TRIFED Aadi Mahotsav
- The Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda inaugurated TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd) Aadi Mahotsav at Dilli Haat in New Delhi, in the presence of Sukhram Munda, Grandson of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
- On the occasion Olympic medalist and boxer Padma Vibhushan MC Marry Kom was declared as brand ambassador of the TRIFED Aadi Mahotsav
- TRIFED Aadi Mahotsav is a national tribal festival and a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the TRIFED. It commenced in 2017 and is held annually in Dilli Haat, New Delhi.
- Mary Kom became the first Indian woman boxer to win a Gold Medal in the Asian Games in 2014 in South Korea and in the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
- The Government of Manipur honoured Mary Kom with the title “Meethoi Leima”.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri attends International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference
- Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, will lead an official and business delegation to UAE from 15 – 17 November 2021, to attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC).
- It was hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
- The minister visited the UAE on the invitation of H. E. Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of UAE.
- Hardeep Singh inaugurated the India Pavilion, which was set up jointly by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
- The Minister also inaugurated the Oil and Gas Sectoral floor at the India Pavilion of the Dubai Expo.

- On Nov 18, 2021, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated to the Nation renovated Rezang La Memorial at a solemn ceremony at Chushul in Ladakh.
- The Memorial was constructed in 1963 in the Chushul plains, at an altitude of over 15,000 feet to honour the troops of Charlie Company of 13 KUMAON Regiment.

Indian Navy conducts security exercise ‘Prasthan’ in Offshore Development Area off Mumbai coast
- On Nov 16, 2021, The Indian Navy conducted a security exercise, called “Prasthan“, in the Offshore Development Area (ODA) off the coast of Mumbai.
- The exercise, conducted by the Headquarters Western Naval Command, is held every six months.
Aim of the exercise:
- To integrate maritime stakeholders, including the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, ONGC, Port Trust, Customs, State Fisheries department and Marine Police, towards refining standard operating procedures for response to various contingencies that could occur in the ODAs.
- The exercise was conducted on the MHN platform of ONGC located about 94 nautical miles west of Mumbai.
- The drill focused on contingencies such as terrorist intrusion, bomb explosion, major fire, oil spill, man overboard, casualty evacuation, loss of control of vessel and mass evacuation.
- The exercise provided a realistic scenario for all stakeholders to assess readiness to respond to and combat contingencies in the Western ODA

- On Nov 19, 2021, South African legend and former captain AB De Villiers announced retirement from all forms of cricket.
- Earlier in May 2018, he announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

- Abraham Benjamin de Villiers was born on 17 February 1984 in Warmbad, South Africa.
- De Villiers captained South Africa in all three formats.
- The 37-year-old Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 internationals for South Africa, scoring more than 20,000 runs across the three formats.
- He has played 156 matches for RCB and scored 4,491 runs.

- Alexander Zverev is ranked 3rd in the ATP World Ranking.

Prakash Padukone to be presented Lifetime Achievement Award by Badminton World Federation
- Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award this year from the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
- The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has submitted 66-year-old Prakash Padukone’s name for this award.
- In 2018, he was also honoured with the BAI’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
- Alaknanda Ashok, who is the President of Uttarakhand Badminton Association, will receive the Women and Gender Equity Award.

ICC announces 8 new tournaments in 14 different host nations
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the 14 host countries of the ICC men’s white ball events from 2024-2031.

UNION GOVERNMENT SCHEME
Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanrakHsan Abhiyan (PM AASHA).
Launched On: 12th September 2018.
Ministry Involved: Ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare.
Objective: To ensure that farmers grow pulses, oilseeds etc get the minimum support prices.
As the name of the scheme states,
- Annadata- Farmer
- Aay – Income
- SanraksHan – Protection
The main objective of the scheme is to provide income security and to increase income of the farmers by
procurement of crops and by ensuring remunerative prices for farmer’s crop.
Target group:
The main focus of the scheme is on farmer’s income so the beneficiaries of the scheme are farmers of the
country.
Corpus:
At the time of launch of the scheme the cabinet had decided to give government guarantee of Rs.16,550
core, making it Rs.45,550 crore in total.
In addition to this, budget provision for procurement operation had also been increased and Rs.15,053
crore had been sanctioned for the implementation of PM AASHA.
Benefits:
Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan’ (PM-AASHA) is an umbrella scheme to ensure
Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers.
The PM AASHA comprises of three components as follows-
Components of PM-AASHA:
1.Price Support Scheme (PSS)
- Procurement of pulses, oilseeds and copra will be done by central agencies.
- The procurement and losses due to procurement will be borne by the central government.
- The Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of
India (NAFED) will help implement the scheme.
- The government will procure 25% of the marketable surplus of farmers for eligible crops.
- The Centre has made a provision of about Rs 16,000 crores to be provided as bank guarantee for the agencies to procure from farmers.
2.Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS)
- The scheme is for oilseeds for which MSP is notified.
- Under the PDPS, the state will ensure the provision of the difference between the prices prevailing in mandis and the MSP.
- The state government can either choose PSS or PDPS.
- All oil-seeds are to be covered under PDPS.
3.Pilot of Private Procurement & Stockist Scheme (PPPS)
- Instead of PSS and PDPS, in certain pilot districts the PPPS will be tried out.
- With the coordination of government, Private agencies will purchase oilseeds.
- The selected private agency shall procure the commodity at MSP in the notified markets during the notified period from the registered farmers in consonance with the PPSS Guidelines, whenever the prices in the market fall below the notified MSP and whenever authorized by the state/UT government.
